What Happened To Our "Secular Humanistic Republic?"
A political disease dangerous to democracy and the common good -- unchecked consolidated wealth-and-power -- is stealthily attacking America from within.
The political disease is the ancient wealth-and-power disease: separate forms of wealth and power -- economic power, political power, military power, religious power, and in modern times media power -- consolidate into an unstoppable force, take wealth and power from others, and hurt them in the process.
During the past tens of millennia our human forebears -- aided by natural moral emotion and natural moral behavior: moral disgust and moral outrage in response to corruption and unfairness, which triggers automatic social cooperation to end the corruption and unfairness -- developed wisdom to fight and prevent the disease. Ancient Greece even wrote and spoke a vocabulary that describes and warns of the disease (see below). America's founders, by applying that wealth of wisdom from the past, revolted against the disease, created America, and wrote a Constitution and Bill of Rights full of homeland-security defenses to prevent the disease from ever flaring up inside America.
But the Framers' inoculations were not strong enough to stop the new strain growing inside America. This new form of the disease (summarized in the next section) is so virulent it knocked out our homeland-security, national-security vigilance against wealth-and-power threats from within, overpowered and overrode our system of supreme-law defenses that protected America from becoming subverted and hurt by internal wealth-and-power, and replaced our Secular Humanistic Republic with a different form of government (explained later in this section) abhorrent to ancient Greece and America's founders.
The disease has already wounded and weakened America so gravely we don't know what "Secular Humanistic Republic" means anymore or how America, by law, is such a wonderful kind of nation. So dangerously we don't even know about the arsenal of homeland/national-security defenses that were written into our Constitution to ward off wealth-and-power threats from within, or about who is responsible for keeping those defenses ready and strong.
Other symptoms of the disease: 9/11. Iraq. Big losses of justice, general welfare, and liberty in our homeland. Huge losses of citizen wealth and citizen power in America. Large annual losses of homeland lives to the disease. Failure of our press to fully and honestly report these symptoms of the disease. Willingness of our press to help spread the disease. (More about all this in the next section.)
What are some of the core American principles that all of us are supposed to know about and cherish today?
What is America supposed to be like today?
"[T]he government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion." In 1797,one decade after our Constitution was written, this affirmation of secularism and separation of church and state became "supreme Law of the Land."
"We, the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America." Thus the first sentence of our US Constitution calls upon We the People -- as united, cooperative, socially-responsible, secular human beings -- to provide far more goodness, far more humanity, to ourselves and our posterity than the Ten Commandments do. The opening sentence of our US Constitution specifies the Public Interest, the National Interest, our true American Values, our basic Moral Values -- which are all generously humanitarian, which are all supreme Law of the Land.
A republic: a state in which supreme power lies in citizens who vote for representatives responsible to them; a state with government of, by, and for We the People. "Of" and "by" means that We the People are the government. Our "supreme power" means that We the People have ultimate power over the White House and Congress and Supreme Court (our Constitution even provides us with a way to replace unjust judges on the Supreme Court). With our supreme power comes supreme responsibility to carry out our "supreme Law of the Land." "For" means that We the People, and our posterity, are the beneficiaries of all this: in return for civic effort made and taxes paid during our principled self-governance of America, We the People and our future generations receive well-being benefits. This is the Social Contract. The benefits of our Social Contract, listed in the first sentence of our Constitution, are bountiful and wondrous -- especially the justice, general-welfare, and liberty benefits that free us to pursue opportunity, fortune, and happiness.
Our Bill of Rights -- our freedom of speech, freedom of the press, unabridged peaceable assembly, freedom to petition for redress of grievances, right of trial by jury, even our freedom of religion and our right to keep and bear arms -- all serve to strengthen our ability to carry out our Bill of Responsibilities: "We, the People" create, operate, and vigilantly oversee our democratic processes and representative governance, and we "establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity;" these supreme responsibilities lay and maintain the democratic, moral, common-good bedrock foundation that supports our pursuit of opportunity, fortune, and happiness in our "more perfect Union."
Laws passed by Congress, executed by the White House, and upheld by the Supreme Court must be laws "made in Pursuance [of]" of our Constitution. If a law hurts our democratic processes or representative governance or hurts "Justice," "domestic Tranquility," "the common defence," "the general Welfare," or "Liberty," for "ourselves and our Posterity," then the law is not "made in Pursuance [of]" our Constitution and thus is not "supreme Law of the Land." Such law is bad law, unjust law, illegal law. Today there are many bad laws that serve wealth-and-power at the expense of our democracy and common good. Not all law is sacred. Only good law is sacred, law that lives up to the humane spirit of Constitution. We the People have supreme power -- and supreme responsibility -- to force our executive and legislative and judicial representatives to be responsible to us, to heed our Constitution, to remove or correct bad laws. And we have the civic power and civic duty to reprimand and replace those representatives who don't. This is how the American republic and American citizens are supposed to think and function.
The founders of our nation tried hard to prevent the ancient wealth-and-power disease from ever flaring up inside America, from ever taking governance away from We the People, from ever hurting our citizens and posterity, as evidenced by this short-list of homeland-security measures they wrote into our Constitution (I'm just an ordinary citizen and surely experts in Constitutional law can rattle off many others): Full, unfettered, open democratic processes -- and transparent, responsive, truly representative governance -- to keep the wealth-and-power disease in check and thus America a republic. "[I]nsure domestic Tranquility" so that citizens don't pit themselves against each other, to keep We the People able to unite and cooperate to fight the disease. "[P]rovide for the common defence" against the disease. "[N]o religious Test[s]" to prevent religion in public servants and other members of the public trust from feeding the disease. Trial by jury as a direct citizen check against unjust prosecution and unjust courts and unjust laws spawned by the disease (juries have a supreme duty to nullify bad laws not "made in Pursuance [of]" our Constitution). Separation of powers, and separation of church and state, to prevent separate components of wealth and power from consolidating and growing into the disease. Freedom of speech, and freedom of the press, to sound alarms about the disease and to call for citizen action to fight and cure the disease.
The half-dozen paragraphs above contain some of the core basics of our "Secular" "Humanistic" "Republic" -- our country's purpose and goals, our national moral values, our method of governance, our citizen responsibilities -- that all of us are supposed to deeply understand, hold dear in our hearts, proudly live up to, vigilantly protect, and resolutely carry out.
The Secular Humanistic Republic -- in our US Constitution -- is supposed to be the source and meaning of American Patriotism and American Pride, what our Flag represents, what our troops fight and die for.
What happened to America?
First, the political disease erased America's core principles from our public education and public mind. Even our American Values have vanished. That gradual, stealthy purging of knowledge of our country's very soul -- together with spin-and-hide deceptions and divide-and-conquer manipulations relentlessly administered by their media machine -- made it quite easy for the disease to attack America from the inside, to overpower and override the homeland/national-security system in our Constitution, and then to weaken and transform our original principled self-governance into a new form of government that feeds and grows the disease.
So. What kind of government does America have today? Theocratic Plutocratic Kakistocracy. (Besides "theocracy," "plutocracy," and "kakistocracy," ancient Greece also coined "democracy.") Our theocracy is based on a new brand of Christianity that arose a century after our republic was founded -- a very inhumane form of Christianity, born-again Christian Zionism, the religion of the Christian Right, a new religion starkly different from the Christianity of America's founders and morally appalling to modern mainstream Christianity. Plutocratic, of course, means rule by the wealthy class. America's new plutocracy is exceptionally dangerous: their inhumane taking of wealth and power from others here and abroad, without remorse for the collateral harm and death they inflict, is condoned and encouraged by a theocratic ally they courted and recruited a quarter-century ago, the Christian Right. Kakistocracy is government by the least qualified or most unprincipled citizens. America's kakistocracy is exceptionally unqualified -- and exceptionally unprincipled -- as shown by how our kakistocracy's citizen representatives and political parties and national press have deceptively switched alliance from serving We the People and our Charter-of-Freedom goals to serving consolidated wealth-and-power and their goals to take and hoard more and more wealth and power here and abroad, as shown by their numerous and massive acts of contempt for the supreme law and common-good humanity embodied in our Constitution. Such is our new Theocratic Plutocratic Kakistocracy which began to rise to power around 1980 and is rapidly gaining strength today.
From Secular Humanistic Republic to Theocratic Plutocratic Kakistocracy. From lawfulness and humanity to unlawfulness and inhumanity. From government of, by, and for We the People to government of, by, and for Wealth and Power. It happened gradually over the past quarter century. So shrewdly and stealthily few Americans are aware. Exactly what the founders of our nation feared and tried hard to prevent.
The effects are frightening. Tragically, American Patriotism and American Pride today are based on our new Theocratic Plutocratic Kakistocracy and its cruel aims, values, and methods: Prey upon and take and hoard wealth and power from others, here and abroad, by whatever means it takes. Use deception, manipulation, even force. If illegal, immoral, destructive, or deadly, no problem, the media machine will spin it down and cover it up. Silence all dissent and grievances. Crush all civic calls to return America to the lawful and humane republic in our Constitution. Trick conservatives and liberals, trick our nation's institutions, and trick our new generations to assist wealth-and-power to take and hoard wealth and power from others. Tragically, this is what our Flag represents today, what our troops fight and die for. America and the world suffer for it.
Our wealth-and-power enemy of today is more corrupt and more immoral, and more dangerous to democracy and the common good, than the wealth-and-power enemy of 1776.
Worry not. The Framers of our Constitution, and our evolutional and historical pasts, provide a repertoire of potent methods to neutralize the wealth-and-power disease and return our America to its lawful and humane true course.
Even our First-Amendment freedom of religion can help. To combat the inhumanity that runaway wealth-and-power and their Christian-Right ally are breeding into America, mainstream-religion churches by the thousands could team up, and in unison from the pulpit vigorously promote a revival of humanity -- a revival of providing human-to-human goodness expecting nothing in return, a revival of building a broad and strong foundation of common good -- a goal very much in harmony with the Public Interest, National Interest, and American Values in the first sentence of our Constitution.
Even our Second Amendment can assist: "[B]eing necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed." Imagine conservatives by the millions accurately aiming and firing their symbolic Minutemen rifles of 1776 at the leaders of the right-wing homeland enemy.
After we restore the Secular Humanistic Republic we won in American Revolution I -- that is, after we complete the long-overdue full maintenance and tune-up of our self-governance and common good called for by our Constitution, American Revolution II -- perhaps we'll annually celebrate the revolt's launching declaration (outlined herein) like we celebrate the Fourth of July.
America's Worst Enemy
Several national political powers that were wisely kept separated in the past to prevent them from teaming up to gain strength, acting selfishly to take and hoard wealth and power from our citizens and Fifty States and from other nations, and hurting the domestic and international common good in the process -- America's wealth/corporate power, executive/legislative/judicial federal powers, intelligence/military power, red/blue political-party power, advertising/PR/news/entertainment mass-media power, Christian-Right religious power -- around 1980 began to consolidate into a single state power.
Today they are adding homeland police-state power, and more global intelligence/military power, to their juggernaut for taking wealth and power here and abroad. They are planning space-based weapons to fire at targets on Earth -- "In Your Face From Outer Space" boasts the Space Warfare Center's motto. They are planning nonlethal electromagnetic weapons to immobilize masses -- including for crowd control here at home as reported in the news.
That unchecked consolidation of wealth-and-power is the homeland enemy, the enemy within, the wealth-and-power disease the Framers of our Constitution tried to spare their future America from.
They are "right wing," not "conservative." (The "right wing" hides behind a "conservative" mask.)
Their media machine deceives and manipulates the American public to their will, so that they can easily take and hoard wealth and power from here and abroad and from future generations.
They are vastly more dangerous to America -- that is, to our principled self-governance and bountiful common well-being -- than terrorism.
They have already breached our homeland/national security. That is, they have already breached the homeland/national security of -- and harmed -- our democratic processes, representative governance, and all five classes of common well-being.
Some of the adverse effects:
9/11: In the 1980s they bred militant Islam into their proxy US military weapon to fight Russians in Afghanistan, then after the Russians left they abandoned their loaded weapon and let it spill out into the world and grow more deadly, which led to 9/11. Their War On Terror, a war on their own proxy military weapon, is in essence a Weapon Disposal Program undertaken twenty years too late.
Iraq: Their long-premeditated armed heist of Iraq's wealth and power, launched under pretenses of Defending America and Giving The Gift Of Democracy To Iraq, has gone terribly bad at huge wealth-and-power/flesh-and-blood costs to Americans also -- and at future cost to America and the world because their venture energizes terrorism. All of which caters to their wealth/corporate and Christian-Right political bases (explained herein). Although their heist was in the works for about a decade before they launched it, although it heavily violates international law and our Constitution, their media machine will not breathe a word of it.
Homeland collateral damage from their mounting heist of wealth and power from We the People: Loss of justice and general welfare and liberty. Loss of life at the rate of at least sixteen 9/11s a year. Loss of citizen wealth -- well-being wealth and financial wealth at the rate of at least $2 trillion annually. Loss of citizen power; they have neutered the supreme power of We the People so totally that America's usual methods of democracy cannot possibly stop their subversion of our self-governance or the harm they inflict on the common good.
A nation skillfully kept clueless: Their media machine deceives and manipulates America so effectively we barely know about the homeland enemy or their massive wrongdoing.
Worry not. A broad-based coalition of concerned citizens, groups, and leaders -- in a resolute re-run of what we celebrate every Fourth of July -- could document all the offenses, put them into a list like the long list of injustices that fills more than half our Declaration of Independence, precisely explain to the entire American public how the homeland enemy and their media machine violate our Constitution from the Preamble onward through the Articles and deep into the Amendments, and let the resulting moral disgust and moral outrage ignite and build unity-and-cooperation to fix America as effectively as it did to create America.
Of Course We Can Win Big
The four-element plan woven into this document and summarized in the conclusion -- a big-picture full solution -- comes from our genetic survival urges, ancient wisdom of humankind, early American history, Declaration of Independence, US Constitution, and Bill of Rights (the last three are deeply rooted in the first two, as explained herein).
Why unite and cooperate -- all conservatives and liberals, all public-interest groups, all educators, all concerned political and business and religious leaders -- and just do it?
Reason one:
The small right-wing homeland enemy -- an out-of-control illegal fusion of wealth and power -- has already made certain that our standard methods of democracy barely work anymore and cannot possibly stop their destruction of our principled self-governance, or halt their escalating plunder of citizen wealth and national assets, or slow their mounting social/economic/bodily collateral harm to the public.
Their media machine masks who they are, hides and aids their wrongdoing, and manipulates citizens by the millions to unwittingly support their wrongdoing and lend a helping hand.
Including by disguising how the red and blue parties are two flavors of the political monopoly that serves wealth-and-power. Such as by how they make us think that the Commission on Presidential Debates is a taxpayer-funded federal commission run fairly; in reality it is a private corporation created in 1987 by the Republican and Democratic parties, it is funded by corporations who give big money to both parties, and it locks out candidates from all other parties. They lead us to believe that we have distinctly different democratic choices. We have no idea that no matter who we vote for today, we vote to further entrench the homeland enemy -- more so by voting red, less so by voting blue.
Reason two:
The well-proven civic-power strategies herein -- some were used to create America -- are potent and surefire and can neutralize the homeland enemy and its media machine, repair the damage and heal the wounds they inflicted, and return our nation to the law and humanity in our Constitution and grow our "more perfect Union."
The key is to restore America's representative governance by democratically overpowering the red/blue political monopoly (which carries out the wishes of Corporate America and the Christian Right in return for tons of corporate cash and a block of Christian-Right votes) with a new political party (devoted to We the People and our Constitution), then apply our Constitution to do many other good things "to ourselves and our Posterity." Including to blow down the illegal house of cards known as "corporate personhood" and to replace most of today's Supreme Court judges.
Reason three:
We the People vastly outnumber the relatively few members of the right-wing homeland enemy -- 500-to-1 against their wealth/corporate core, 10-to-1 against their Christian-Right core -- and we are directed and bound by our Constitution to rise up and win.
"United We Stand, Divided We Fall" was a key strategy that We the People applied to fight the right-wing enemy of 1776; the slogan's first word became part of our nation's name. We must apply that strategy against right-wing homeland enemy of today. We must do it to overcome their many divide-and-conquer manipulations relentlessly administered and reinforced by their media machine -- manipulations that pit conservatives against liberals, conservatives against conservatives, liberals against liberals, manipulations that make us think and act selfishly and blind us to the common good and block us from acting toward the common good, manipulations that replace "domestic Tranquility" with domestic discord and unity with divisiveness, manipulations that deaden the fierce moral feeling and action for the common good that pulses though our Declaration of Independence, skillful manipulations that prevent conservative and liberals from uniting and cooperating against the common enemy: the small dangerous "right wing" falsely portrayed by their media machine as a righteous majority that's good for America.
Ignite Our NATURAL Civic Power
The innate human response to corruption and unfairness? Feelings of moral disgust and moral outrage, then automatic social cooperation to end the corruption and unfairness. Modern science is discovering this to be genetic survival emotion and survival behavior, the roots of human morality. A cherished, celebrated written record of this natural moral response to corruption and unfairness? Our Declaration of Independence.
Enlightened nations, and America's Charters of Freedom, foster this natural moral emotion and natural moral behavior in order to protect and advance the common good. For example: Our Declaration of Independence encourages such feeling and action toward the common good. The Preamble of our Constitution requires America to have unity and cooperation toward the common good, and for We the People as a united-and-cooperative union to defend America against threats to the common good, the same moral theme in our Declaration of Independence. Our First Amendment protects free speech toward the common good -- no matter how strongly accusative against authority acting against the common good -- including any free speech modeled after, serving the same purpose as, and as emotional, inflammatory, dissentful, and effective as our Declaration of Independence; such freedom of speech is a vital part of America's homeland/national security against internal threats to our self-governance and well-being.
However in today's America the homeland enemy and their media machine are manipulatively disabling our moral disgust, moral outrage, and social cooperation as part of their broad attack on basic abilities that make We the People human: respect, responsibility, cooperation, critical thinking. Without respect, responsibility, cooperation, and critical thinking infused into citizens during youth and steadily reinforced throughout their lives in accordance with the tens-of-millennia wise tradition of humankind, the population as a whole cannot fathom our Constitution or desire to live up to it, and cannot perceive or defend against disguised and dangerous treats to self-governance and well-being. Why are they attacking and wounding our ability to function as vigilant, wise, humane members of our species? To make it easier for them to take wealth and power from us: to take our financial and well-being wealth, to take our supreme self-governance power.
They are also attacking and wounding our ability to think and act like Americans -- to think and act in accordance with the supreme law and generous humanity in our Constitution, to even know what our Law of Land and its American Values really are -- for the very same selfish motives.
Primordial urges for justice lie deep inside all of us and cannot be permanently deadened by those who try. To begin the long-overdue full maintenance and tune-up of our special American democracy, ignite moral disgust, moral outrage, and unity-and-cooperation -- just like the founders of our nation did in 1776 -- to end today's massive unfairness. Sections below provide explosive fuel for the healing civic fire.
Vital First Steps
In order to fix America, as a very first step We the People -- conservatives and liberals alike -- must wake up and realize who is subverting our self-governance and hurting our common good and how small and defeatable their group is, how and to what great extent that homeland enemy is stealthily assaulting our country and citizens from within, and why they are doing it.
To recover and build our civic power, so that we can fight the homeland enemy and win, We the People must rediscover and internalize core civic knowledge and core civic duty -- all in our Constitution -- that the homeland enemy has erased from our public education and public mind. Especially these two old civics lessons: How the Framers foresaw and feared a future homeland enemy -- a wealth-and-power enemy within destructive to America's principled self-governance and to the five classes of common well-being listed in the first sentence of our Constitution -- and wrote several homeland/national-security measures into our Constitution to prevent such a homeland enemy from ever being able to form inside America (two of those security measures are separation of powers and separation of church and state). How We the People, the government of America, have supreme power and supreme responsibility to defend America against such a homeland enemy.
As part of our patriotic wake-up call, we must come to understand how that small homeland enemy bred Islamic terrorism as a proxy US-military weapon in the 1980s with our tax dollars and in partnership with Saudi Arabia and then discarded their loaded weapon and let it spill out into the world. How and why they manufacture and exploit mass fear of terrorism and incite terrorism today. How and why they twisted the meaning of "national security" so that it no longer means "being free of danger and harm to our principled self-governance and bountiful common well-being," a full national-security package that includes being safe from terrorism (today, "national security" means "safe from terrorism," period). How they have already breached our homeland/national security by overriding and violating all homeland/national-security measures woven into our Constitution, including by corrupting and weakening our democratic processes and representative governance -- and by weakening the ability of We the People to even perceive their unchecked consolidated wealth-and-power or sense the immense danger or defend our country against them. All so very shrewdly and skillfully America barely knows it. How they threaten our nation -- our democratic processes, our representative governance, our five classes of common well-being -- vastly more dangerously than terrorism.
To overcome the homeland enemy's manipulation of our public mind, including to surmount how they are dividing-and-conquering us, we must learn how the homeland enemy is "right wing" and not "conservative" or "liberal" -- how the moral character of right wing is rooted in wealth-and-power injustice, the type of injustice that set off the American Revolution, and how true conservatism and true liberalism are rooted in the law and humanity of our Constitution.
In order to stop the enemy, a vital first step is to define the enemy and expose the enemy for all of America to see. We defined the enemy of 1776 by naming who they were, by describing their lawless and immoral character, by listing their many injustices -- it fills more than half our Declaration of Independence -- and we celebrate that vital first step every Fourth of July. To stop America's worst enemy of today -- the out-of-control wealth-and-power homeland enemy that is subverting and hurting America -- and to restore and grow the principled self-governance and bountiful common well-being which they are rapidly removing as they busily take and hoard our wealth and power (our financial and well-being wealth and our supreme self-governance power), We the People in a rerun of our history must again gather resolve and unite, cooperate, and undertake that well-proven vital first step today.
1776 Again
Hidden by and assisted by a press that is supposed to help guard America's democracy and common good, unchecked consolidated wealth-and-power -- in our homeland -- is taking $2 trillion from us a year ($15,000 per taxpayer a year through a system of tax fleecing and corporate gouging that transfers wealth from the poor and middle class to the well off who don't need it and hoard it) and 50,000 of our lives a year (sixteen 9/11s a year due to cuts in healthcare affordability and cuts in food/drug/product/vehicle/workplace/environmental public safety). This theft and harm is one part of their wide-ranging stealthy mounting assault on America's principled self-governance and bountiful common well-being. Their goal, their inner drive, is an ancient one: take and hoard wealth and power at the expense of We the People and our posterity. A description of their character -- of the ancient wealth-and-power disease that has plagued humankind off and on for millennia, of the reason why We the People revolted in 1776 -- fills more than half our Declaration of Independence. They violate and override the entire redundant system of homeland/national-security measures the Framers wrote and wove into our Constitution to protect America against internal wealth-and-power assaults on our self-governance and common well-being.
Their assault on America began to flare up around 1980 when their wealth/corporate core, which includes Washington and the Republican/Democratic monopoly, added two partners to their wealth-and-power fusion -- a religious partner and a media partner. They recruited the Christian Right into their fold. The religion of the Christian Right, born-again Christian Zionism, is an inhumane brand of Christianity born a century after our Constitution was written. The wealth/corporate core and the Christian Right share a common desire to control and dominate others without concern for the inhumanity they inflict. Human suffering, inflicted here and abroad by the wealth/corporate core, harmonize with Christian-Right yearning for "end times:" the more intense and widespread the human suffering here and abroad, the quicker "end times" will come. That prophesied end of history, interpreted from the Book of Revelation, requires bloody Middle East conflict including for Israel to expand its borders. Simultaneously around 1980, the wealth/corporate core began to restructure America's entire mass media into their own media machine by merging advertising, public relations, journalism, and entertainment into "communication" serving wealth/corporate and Christian-Right interests, by removing the FCC's Fairness Doctrine and public-service requirements from broadcasting, and by relaxing the FCC's restrictions on media consolidation.
Beginning around 1980, it took them only twenty-five years to head us back toward the unjust type of America that existed before the first Fourth of July. Today only a few people -- a half-million in the fusion's wealth/corporate core (0.2% of the public including the White House, Congress, Judiciary, two major political parties, media owners) and 30 million in their Christian-Right core (a small but loud non-mainstream religion, 10% of the public) -- are rapidly taking wealth and power from the other 270 million people in our homeland (90% of the public). Due to the thick fog of deception and manipulation they continuously spread throughout America with their media machine, they are getting away with this massive lawbreaking and inhumanity. Unchecked consolidated wealth-and-power and their media machine are harming us socially, economically, and bodily. They are subverting and hurting our government of, by, and for We the People back toward an unjust government of, by, and for Wealth and Power that sparked the dissent, declaration, and revolt we celebrate every Fourth of July.
Ancient human wisdom, early American history, the Declaration of Independence, and US Constitution all warn America to be vigilant and keep our members of wealth-and-power in careful check otherwise they will consolidate, flare up drunk with power devoid of social responsibility, and hurt our democracy and common good. But homeland wealth-and-power and their media machine erased all that vital understanding from America's public education, public mind, and public life; it was part of their softening-up assault on the homeland/national security of America's principled self-governance and bountiful common well-being, security that had to be breached to take our wealth and power. After they disabled our homeland/national security against American wealth-and-power -- including by weakening the natural and legal civic powers of We the People and by corrupting and debilitating our democratic processes and representative governance (all explained herein) -- it was easy for wealth/corporate power, executive/legislative/judicial federal powers, intelligence/military power, red/blue political-party power, mass-media power, and Christian-Right religious power to merge and grow into the unchecked political power that today is harming America, our posterity, and the world.
During the past quarter-century, that wealth-and-power fusion morphed our real American democracy into a market-based democracy of buyers and sellers of political products. The market works like this: Wealth/corporate and Christian-Right customers of the White House and Congress place orders (through the lobbying process) for laws and funds, domestic and foreign policies, and judicial appointments and court rulings that give them more wealth and power at the expense of everybody else. They pay for those political products with volumes of wealth/corporate campaign cash and a large bloc of Christian-Right votes that keep wealth-and-power in perpetual control of the White House, Congress, and Judiciary. Less-wealthy individuals, and cash-strapped groups each serving one tiny vital aspect of the public interest, simply cannot compete in our new market-based democracy. We lack the cash resources and voting-bloc size to buy from the White House and Congress equal "Justice" for all, "domestic Tranquility" needed for national unity and cooperation toward carrying out America's law and humanity, "the common defence" against enemies within who are freely taking our wealth and power and well-being, "the general Welfare" including equal access to healthcare and education for all, and "the Blessings of Liberty" including privacies and freedoms. And we no longer have a free press to pressure the White House and Congress (elected representatives responsible to We the People and our posterity) to behave Constitutionally (lawfully and morally) as a White House and Congress really should. Red and blue, and the media, all participate in this immense, escalating, subversion and harm of America.
Today they are adding homeland police-state power and more global intelligence/military power to their wealth-and-power fusion. Their unchecked power is beginning to grow into fascism.
They are driven by wealth/corporate interests (take and hoard wealth and power at the expense of others) and Christian-Right interests (force inhumane religious dogma and inhumane laws on others). Those selfish interests are directly at odds with the public interest and national interest specified in our Constitution (We the People undertake lawful-and-humane self-governance that provides five classes of common well-being to ourselves and our posterity, the legal and moral bedrock of our "more perfect Union" that frees us to pursue opportunity and fortune and happiness as individuals).
Systematically and stealthily, consolidated wealth-and-power and their media machine are cracking and crumbling the bedrock of our "more perfect Union" in order to extract and hoard our wealth and power. Which is why opportunity and fortune and happiness are in such decline for most Americans today.
They have already made certain that our standard methods of democracy -- reading and watching the news to stay informed, supporting just causes, working on vital civic issues, whistleblowing in the public interest, engaging in principled dissent, writing to our Senators and Congressman, voting red or blue -- cannot possibly stop them from taking more and more of our wealth and our power, even if every citizen votes in every election. Because they have already replaced the real American democracy embodied in our Constitution with a rigged free-market democracy where wealth-and-power, red flavor or blue flavor, always wins.
What can We the People do about it? Plenty. Resurrect and unleash our natural civic power and our legal civic power. That is, rediscover and build up and wield our entire arsenal of civic power that consolidated wealth-and-power and their media machine are stealthily weakening within America and removing from America:
Resurrect and unleash our Deep Natural Urges For Justice. Feel and voice moral disgust and moral outrage, primordial survival emotion of our species, and then act on it en masse.
Resurrect and unleash our Innate Social Action For Justice. Unite and cooperate to end unfairness and mistreatment, primordial survival behavior of our species, and to create common good.
Resurrect and apply our Ancient Wisdom Of Humankind:
Restore and exercise respect, responsibility, cooperation, and critical thinking. These are ancient survival skills of our species, core human attributes of We the People, and bare-basic social/emotional/intellectual requirements for representatives and leaders of We the People. If you don't have these core wisdom-and-humanity skills within you by the time you reach physical adulthood, you won't have the moral literacy and intellectual ability -- the core human capacity -- to fathom or want to further the supreme law and secular morality in our Constitution. All four skills were listed as human-development goals on grade-school report cards (such as on our daughters') before wealth-and-power pressured and influenced their removal in the early 1980s. (Besides purging these skills of good citizenship from America in multiple ways, wealth-and-power and their media machine are purging knowledge and understanding of good citizenship from America in order to weaken homeland/national security and take control of America.)
Keep the members of wealth-and-power politically separated and in careful check otherwise they will consolidate, rage out of control, and harm you and your nation. The Framers wove this wisdom deeply into our Constitution to create a redundant system of homeland/national-security protections against out-of-control wealth-and-power. They entrusted the future public trust -- White House, Congress, Judiciary, political parties, free press (mass media) -- to guard and foster this vital homeland security of our democratic processes, representative governance, and five classes of common well-being. (Wealth-and-power and their media machine erased this Civics-101 lesson from America, and many others also, in order to take our wealth and power to grow their wealth and power.)
Resurrect and apply our Early American History. Voice moral disgust and moral outrage against, unite and cooperate against, and revolt against government of, by, and for Wealth and Power.
Dust off, read, and apply our Declaration of Independence. Describe the immoral character of the wealth-and-power enemy and list their many injustices (which takes up more than half of our most cherished Charter of Freedom!) and declare national resolve to get out from under irresponsible wealth-and-power and the harm they inflict and to have government of, by, and for We the People instead.
Dust off, read, and wield our US Constitution. Carry out its morality and law, that is, carry out principled self-governance and bountiful common well-being to ourselves and our posterity. "We, the People" -- the government of America -- have supreme power and supreme responsibility to "provide for the common defence" against consolidated wealth-and-power and their media machine, and to fulfill the rest of our Constitution as well.
Begin by repeating a key part of early American history. Create a modern version of the original Continental Congress to unite citizen forces ("United We Stand, Divided We Fall"), to build citizen forces, and to direct citizen forces to fight the consolidated wealth-and-power and media machine who are subverting and hurting America. This broad-based national civic-action coalition, operating outside the influence of Washington D.C. for the purpose of homeland/national defense against the right, would germinate a new political party that could rapidly bloom, resoundingly win against reds and blues, and restore principled self-governance and bountiful common good to America.
From inside our homeland they breached America's security -- the security of our democratic processes, representative governance, and five classes of common well-being.
Frightening evidence of the breach: Can you recite and explain the five classes of American Common-Good Benefits, listed in the first sentence of our Constitution since 1787, that We the People have supreme power and supreme responsibility to provide to ourselves and our posterity? Like most citizens today, probably not. Because during their softening-up assaults on our principled self-governance and bountiful common well-being, consolidated wealth-and-power and their media machine erased all those benefits -- along with the rest of the essence of real American democracy -- from our public education and public mind. We no longer know what to be vigilant for -- the whole point -- as they busily take our wealth and our power: our financial and well-being wealth, our supreme self-governance power.
Beginning on July 4, 1776, We the People united, cooperated, and won against wealth-and-power to create America. Beginning today we could unite, cooperate, and win against wealth-and-power to fix America.
A vital first step? Wake up and see, and resolutely overcome, the divide-and-conquer manipulations -- designed by wealth-and-power and administered by their media machine -- that undermine the ability of We the People to unite and cooperate to self-govern America and provide the five classes of common well-being to ourselves and our posterity in accordance with our Constitution. The homeland enemy's manipulations divide us -- into conservatives and liberals (whose common enemy is the "right wing" hurting both), into several dozen demographic groups, into hundreds of subcategories under that -- and sway and play us to compete and fight against each other for attention and success in the new democratic marketplace, a "free-market" democracy heavily rigged so that wealth-and-power wins every time as long as they keep We the People divided and powerless. They divide us to prevent us from defending America against them. They divide us to conquer us by taking our financial wealth, our well-being wealth, and our supreme self-governance power. The homeland enemy (a secular 0.2% and religious 10% of the public), like the enemy of 1776, wants "Divided We Fall." We the People (90% of the public), like the citizens of 1776, need "United We Stand."
The conclusion of this document outlines a four-element plan to achieve our common dream -- a long-overdue full maintenance and tune-up, American Revolution II, of the real American democracy we won in American Revolution I.
Reap The Immense Rewards
In return for our efforts made and taxes paid during our principled self-governance of America, We the People receive bountiful common well-being -- five different kinds of common-good benefits. That is the social contract embodied in our Constitution, the duty and price and reward of good citizenship. It is government of, by, and for We the People.
America is a "republic." In a republic, supreme power lies in citizens who elect representatives responsible to them.
We the People, the supreme power in America, are the government of America. We hire with elections, and pay with our taxes, representatives who are responsible to us and to the law and humanity in our Constitution: a White House and Congress who create a Judiciary including the Supreme Court. They are America's key public employees dedicated to serving the public interest spelled out in our Constitution (the principled self-governance and bountiful common well-being summarized a few paragraphs below), and We the People are their employers who vigilantly watch over them and direct them and hold them accountable. They are not the "government." We the People are. They do not have "supreme power." We the People do. We have so much power that we, and our Constitution, can remove and replace nearly all the judges on the Supreme Court (see the conclusion).
In this document, "principled" means "acting in accordance with our Constitution's law and humanity both in technicality and spirit."
Our principled self-governance requires a public trust: A principled mass media (including an open and honest free press) to assure truly democratic processes. And principled elected-and-appointed representatives (made possible by a principled mass media, and its offshoot, truly democratic processes) to assure truly representative governance.
If America doesn't have a principled mass media, then America can't possibly have truly democratic processes. Or truly representative governance. Or the full set of US-Constitution benefits summarized in the two paragraphs right below.
Individuals and corporations and even religions have plenty of leeway to pursue opportunity, fortune, and happiness as they please -- as long as their actions do not in any way endanger or harm America's democratic processes, representative governance, and five classes of common well-being. Besides not endangering that principled self-governance and bountiful common good, our Constitution requires everyone in America to help foster it. Our freedom for all, the American Dream for all, requires active social responsibility by all -- especially by our public trust.
How immense are the common-good benefits that We the People provide to ourselves and our posterity through democratic processes, representative governance, and vigilant active good citizenship made possible by a principled mass media that keeps us fully and honestly informed? Dust off and read the first sentence of our Constitution written in 1787: We the People [1] establish equal justice for all, [2] insure domestic tranquility and thus the unity-and-cooperation needed for America to be united (as in "United" States of America) toward living up to the law and humanity in our Constitution, [3] provide for the common defense and homeland/national security including against threats from within, [4] promote the general welfare of several kinds including education and health and social/economic/bodily safety, and [5] secure the blessings of liberty including our privacies and rights and freedoms to pursue opportunity and fortune and happiness. This is in the very first sentence of our "supreme Law of the Land."
Study and compare those Five Commandments of America with the Ten Commandments. Note how the Five Commandments of America call upon We the People -- especially our public trust -- to provide far more goodness to America, and to our posterity, than the Ten Commandments do.
Obviously the founders of our republic had a positive, bright, uplifting view of Human Nature: People are naturally good, not bad, and are innately capable of self-governing our "more perfect Union" to furnish plenty more goodness than merely "Liberty and Justice for all" -- including plenty more safety than being free from terrorism (terrorism is a minor threat compared to the far deadlier threat, America's wealth-and-power disease, being hidden from the public today).
Our social contract -- government of, by, and for We the People -- works beautifully. As long as our public trust remains trustworthy.
Today our public trust is violating our trust. Our social contract is under mounting assault by those in whom we are taught and told to place our trust. Today's White House, Congress, Judiciary, the two major political parties, and our news-and-entertainment mass media, working as a team, more and more are serving wealth/corporate clients and Christian-Right clients at the expense of We the People and our posterity. Their wealth/corporate and Christian-Right clients, who formed a political alliance a quarter-century ago, share a frightening common ground: hunger for power and control over others, contempt for and action against law and humanity in our Constitution, proclivity for and shrewdness at deceiving the public. That wealth and power began to consolidate into an illegal, unchecked political force around 1980. Similar to the flare-ups of consolidated wealth-and-power that have occurred off-and-on throughout the ages, they -- our corrupted public trust and their wealth/corporate/religious clients -- are taking our wealth (the financial wealth and well-being wealth of We the People) and our power (the supreme power and self-governance of We the People) without remorse for the wrong and harm they inflict.
America is unaware. Their media machine spins and hides their dangerous growing fusion of wealth-and-power and their subversion and harm. They prevent vigilant free speech -- especially journalism, whistleblowing, and dissent -- from sounding homeland/national-security alarms about their assault on America's democratic processes, representative governance, and all five classes of common well-being.
Unchecked consolidated wealth-and-power -- a virulent new strain of the same political disease the founders of America understood and feared, described at length in our Declaration of Independence with heated words of dissent, and inoculated America against with many supreme-law measures in our Constitution -- today is disabling our ability to govern, taking our tax money, robbing our common-good benefits, as it converts our government of, by, and for We the People (our type of government after the American Revolution) into a government of, by, and for Wealth and Power (the type of government before the American Revolution that we disliked so much we revolted against it: the true meaning of our Flag).
Suppose We the People -- the rightful government of America and supreme power in America -- undertake resolute national-defense effort ("We, the People... provide for the common defence") and pay a small tax to fight the disease and restore our nation back to lawful and humane political health. That is, suppose we carry out American Revolution II and steer our ship-of-state back to the principled Secular Humanistic Republic born in American Revolution I.
What's in it for us financially? By eliminating today's $2-trillion-a-year tax fleecing and corporate gouging by the wealth-and-power disease (theft hidden from America by the disease's media machine), each and every taxpayer would save $15,000 a year on the average. It would cost $50 per taxpayer a year, for 100% public financing of political campaigns, a 300-to-1 return on investment (not nearly as profitable as the payoff rate on many campaign contributions today, which would all be eliminated).
How would we come out ahead in matters of life and death? By stopping today's collateral damage on citizens by the wealth-and-power disease (wrongful death hidden from America by the disease's media machine), we would save at least 50,000 lives in our homeland annually, a small city's worth of lives every year, more than sixteen 9/11s a year. This massive saving of life would be another return on that same $50-a-year investment.

Those would be just two of the many immense rewards if We the People unite (as in "United" States of America) and cooperate (conservatives and liberals working as a huge powerful team against the small right-wing enemy within that's similar to the enemy of 1776) to return our nation to the law and humanity in our Constitution.
How? Do what we did before. Create a modern version of the 1776 Continental Congress to unite, build, and direct citizen forces to fight the wealth-and-power disease the Framers foresaw, feared, and tried hard to prevent from ever flaring up in our homeland. The broad-based citizen congress would complete and certify the above lists of theft and wrongful death and bring them to the attention of the entire American public in a new version of the Declaration of Independence. That's a portion of Element 1 in the four-element plan herein.
The goal? To again have a public trust -- a White House, Congress, Judiciary, political parties, and media -- that the public can trust.
Those In Whom We Place Our Trust Have Breached Our Homeland/National Security
Around 1980 a virulent new strain of the ancient wealth-and-power disease began to flare up in our homeland, a homeland/national-security threat the Framers foresaw and feared in 1787 and tried to protect their future America from.
After stealthily growing in strength for a quarter-century inside our homeland, today the disease is savaging America's law and humanity, freely attacking and hurting America's principled self-governance and bountiful common well-being.
Although the disease disguises and hides itself well including much of the harm it inflicts, Americans are feeling the pain. So will our posterity. So do people in other nations. So do Nature and Earth.
More than half of our Declaration of Independence -- in fiery language of dissent -- describes the lawless and inhumane character of the wealth-and-power disease, the 1776 strain and today's strain.
The founders of our republic understood the character and peril of the wealth-and-power disease. So they inoculated America with a cocktail of security protections written into our Constitution. Two of them are separation of powers and separation of church and state.
Perhaps the Framers could not foresee what makes today's homeland strain of the wealth-and-power disease so extremely dangerous compared to the 1776 British strain. Around 1980 America's wealth/corporate/central-government/political-party consolidation (same consolidation as in 1776 Britain) teamed up with an inhumane new brand of Christianity that emerged in the late 1800s a century after the birth of America, the religion of today's Christian Right, then recruited America's media to switch allegiance and restructure itself to serve and protect their growing fusion of wealth-and-power.
Add police-state militarism to the central-government component, replace Christian-Right with Anti-Semitism, and you have the strain that infected Nazi Germany.
Unlike our media of 1776, which exposed and fought the disease, our media of today spins and hides the disease, which spreads and worsens the disease and the wrong and harm it inflicts.
Unlike the mainstream Christianity of America's founders, unlike the mainstream Christianity in today's America, the Christian Right condones and fosters the disease and its unlawfulness and inhumanity, all from behind a media-maintained cloak of goodness. For example, from behind the Ten Commandments they help the wealth-and-power disease wage a mounting assault on the Five Commandments of America -- the five-point secular-moral code in the first sentence of our Constitution, our five core American values -- that call upon We the People to provide far more goodness to America and to our posterity than the Ten Commandments do.
Stemming from a resolute stealthy campaign of wealth-and-power acquisition launched around 1980 by America's consolidating wealth-and-power, a campaign they supercharged by recruiting an inhumane religion and forming an accomplice press to aid and abet them, that new strain of the disease recently broke through our Constitution's system of several homeland/national-security barriers that the Framers erected to protect America from out-of-control wealth-and-power within.
But America is barely aware of that breach of homeland/national security. Because during quarter-century lead-up to the breach the disease stealthily neutralized America's vigilance, so completely that America lost knowledge and understanding of homeland/national security and the dangerous threat from within the founders of our country feared. From America's awareness, the disease erased its lawless and inhumane character, and its danger to the common good, described at length in our Declaration of Independence. From America's awareness, the disease erased the several homeland-security measures the Framers wrote into our Constitution to ward off unchecked wealth-and-power and the harm it inflicts. From America's awareness, the disease erased the meaning of national security: being secure from threats to our democratic processes, being secure from threats to our representative governance, being secure from threats to our five classes of common well-being listed in the first sentence of our Constitution. All components of the disease -- wealth/corporate, central-government, political-party, inhumane-religion, mass-media -- symbiotically cooperated to erase homeland/national-security vigilance from America's public education and public mind (as successfully as they erased the five core American values from our nation). After seeing to it that America no longer knows about the existence or character or peril of unchecked consolidated wealth-and-power, or about our Constitution's system of protections against that peril from within, or about what homeland security and national security really are, the disease then breached America's homeland/national security with utter ease.
As a result of the security breach, our democracy of today -- corruptibly altered by the disease from the old form into a new form that is weak against the disease, into a democracy where We the People no longer know or understand that we are the government of America with supreme power and supreme responsibility to carry out our Constitution through representatives we carefully select and hire, into a market-based democracy of selling and buying political products that bears little resemblance to the principled democracy in our Constitution, into an unprincipled majority-is-right democracy with heavily-rigged democratic processes that assure vitality and growth of the wealth-and-power disease -- cannot possibly stop the disease or the mounting harm it inflicts here and abroad.
Like a political form of HIV/AIDS, the disease is weakening and shutting down our real-American-democracy defenses against unchecked wealth-and-power and the harm it inflicts. Like a wasting cancer, the disease is breaking down and eroding away our democratic processes and representative governance and five classes of common well-being. Like a hungry cancer, the disease is draining social/economic/bodily common well-being from America and sapping citizen hope and spirit from America as it satisfies its appetite for more and more of our wealth and our power.
Herein is a cure based on our natural survival emotion and behavior, ancient wisdom of humankind, early American history, Declaration of Independence, US Constitution, and Bill of Rights. A four-element plan to administer the potent, surefire cure is outlined in the conclusion.
America's Betrayers
America's unchecked consolidated wealth-and-power -- dangerously out-of-control, growing stronger and more unstoppable day by day -- consists of a tiny wealth/corporate core aided and abetted by the White House and Congress and Judiciary, the red/blue political monopoly, an inhumane new brand of Christianity born a century ago, and a media that reversed its allegiance. Stealthily as a team they are subverting and hurting America, violating law and humanity in our Constitution. It began around 1980. They are the homeland enemy, the enemy within, a security threat the Framers foresaw and feared and tried to protect America from.
Their media machine hides their betrayal:
They, the homeland enemy, are attacking and wounding our democratic processes and representative governance. They've made sure that virtually all media information, and nearly all democratic choices on the ballot, side with consolidated wealth-and-power. Free speech including whistleblowing and dissent, advocating adherence to law and humanity in our Constitution, are squelched. Even by today's Supreme Court. But free speech that favors wealth-and-power, and spins and hides subversion and harm committed by wealth-and-power, is allowed and fostered. Both major political parties service consolidated wealth-and-power, blues slightly less so than reds. That red/blue political monopoly fights off all threats to their consolidated-wealth-and-power rule. During the entire election process, from campaign kick-offs to final tallies, many underhanded activities take place in the background to tilt election outcomes toward red. The winners, upon reaching office as representatives responsible to We the People and our Constitution, barely listen to We the People or follow our Constitution. Instead they service their clients, a half-million wealth/corporate clients (who pay with cash) and 30 million Christian-Right clients (who pay with votes), at the social/economic/bodily expense of 270 million We the People, which violates our Constitution. They've made sure that reading and watching the news to stay informed, voting in every election, and writing to our Senators and Congressman don't work anymore.
They are attacking and wounding "Justice." It is no longer equal. Or for all. More and more, wealthy-and-powerful major offenders get away with it. Poor-and-powerless minor offenders, committing desperate acts of survival in response to social and economic breakdown caused by irresponsible acts of consolidated wealth-and-power, are being trapped by tough-on-crime laws that target the poor and the powerless and are put into taxpayer-funded privatized prisons that earn money for wealth-and-power. Nearly everyone behind bars in America is poor and powerless. Among nations that keep statistics, most do, America has the highest per-capita incarceration rate of all. If Texas were a nation it would top the list.
They are attacking and wounding "domestic Tranquility." Using a variety of divide-and-conquer tactics executed by their media machine, they divided us up -- and pitted us against each other -- so that We the People can't unite and cooperate to protect and preserve America and carry out our Constitution (which would break up and wrest control from consolidated wealth-and-power).
They are attacking and wounding "the common defence." They weakened our national security against threats from outside. Their Iraq venture, a big winner for their wealth/corporate and Christian-Right clients no matter which way the war turns (explained herein), is fueling international terrorism which threatens America. Their other unfair foreign policies and their unjust international trade policies, hidden from America under pretenses that show humane intent, are also fomenting backlash at America. They have already breached our homeland/national security against threats from within, and are freely attacking and wounding our principled self-governance and bountiful common well-being at a faster and faster pace.
They are attacking and wounding "the general Welfare." As they take and hoard our wealth and our power to benefit their tiny group, they assault the social/economic/bodily well-being of the vast majority. Education. Opportunity. Healthcare. Consumer protection. Retirement. Public/workplace/environmental safety. And far more (write in all the other general-welfare categories you see them assaulting: ______, ______, ______, ...). Increasingly unfair taxation, and corporate gouging and fraud, are transferring our wealth up to them at a faster and faster rate (explained herein). The resulting financial harm and bodily harm to our citizens, kept hidden from the public by their media machine, is staggering (explained herein). The list of their damage to the general welfare is long and horrifying.
They are attacking and wounding "Liberty." In their quest for more and more control over us, they are taking away our freedoms and privacies. Especially our freedom to voice alarms about how consolidated wealth-and-power, and their media machine, have breached our security from within and are violating our Law of the Land to the core.
They are attacking and wounding separation of powers and separation of church and state, two of the security measures the Framers devised to protect today's America from out-of-control wealth-and-power (the other measures are explained herein). The federal executive, legislative, and judicial branches are fusing into a single federal power that serves wealth/corporate and Christian-Right clients at the expense of We the People and our posterity. Instead of carrying out the law and humanity in our Constitution, more and more they are carrying out the wealth-grabbing and power-grabbing goals of their wealth/corporate and Christian-Right clients while cloaking their actions as lawful and humane.
The homeland enemy has succeeded perhaps beyond their wildest dreams. For all practical purposes, they have subverted our government of, by, and for We the People into a government of, by, and for wealth-and-power -- back to the same unjust type of government that set off the American Revolution.
(To fix America, We the People could apply a strategy that made America. We could unite and cooperate, form a new version of the Continental Congress to build and direct citizen forces against the enemy, complete this list of injustices committed by the enemy, include it in a new version of the Declaration of Independence the new congress and its civic forces would distribute nationwide, which -- with 100% certainty -- would launch a long-overdue full maintenance and tune-up of the real American democracy defined by our Constitution.)
They bend our public mind to their will. And trick us to go along with their betrayal. Even to assist their betrayal.
How do they persuade Americans by the millions to support and help them take more and more wealth-and-power from America, and from the world, without concern for wrong they commit or harm they inflict? By hiding and spinning truth that would hurt their efforts. By fabricating falsehoods to aid their efforts. By manufacturing, promoting, and exploiting fear. By carrying out numerous divide-and-conquer manipulations against the public, to prevent us from uniting-and-cooperating to defend our country against them. By morphing America's values, from values that drive principled self-governance and bountiful common well-being, toward values that drive the unjust taking of wealth and power from others. By twisting public understanding of our Constitution, including power and responsibility of the President and citizens, in a way that strengthens homeland-enemy power and weakens citizen power (as explained in our Constitution, the overriding duty of We the People -- and the President we hire -- is to resolutely halt and fix the immense betrayals listed above). By stealthily removing the basic concept of real American democracy (We the People provide principled self-governance and bountiful common well-being to ourselves and our posterity) from America. By displaying public faces of righteousness and goodness -- patriotism, unity, homeland/national security, piety, human warmth, homeland and family values, integrity, morality -- to cloak their unlawfulness and inhumanity. Their news-and-entertainment media machine executes the persuasion.
The betrayers -- unchecked consolidated wealth-and-power, their media machine, and tragically the millions of citizens and many institutions (including education) they skillfully tricked to assist them without even knowing it -- are busily subverting and hurting America. Including by wounding the ability of We the People (the government of America and supreme power in America) to provide democratic processes, representative governance, and the five classes of common well-being to ourselves and our posterity.
A simple test reveals the depth and danger of their betrayal: As a patriotic good American citizen can you recite -- and explain the essence of -- the five secular-moral responsibilities of We the People, the Five Commandments of America, listed in the first sentence of our Constitution since 1787?
The recitation they purged: "We, the People... [1] establish Justice, [2] insure domestic Tranquility, [3] provide for the common defence, [4] promote the general Welfare, and [5] secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity." The explanations they purged, basic understanding of [1]-[5], are summarized herein.
Our Constitution's Article 6 explains how that five-point moral code is "supreme Law of the Land." All citizens are bound to live up to it. Especially our executive/legislative/judicial representatives, who we select and hire (through democratic processes) to carry out our Constitution including its moral code (through representative governance). When they take office, they solemnly vow to uphold America's law and humanity to serve We the People. After they take office they break their oath, and violate our law and humanity to serve wealth/corporate and Christian-Right clients instead.
They stealthily erased core understanding of our Constitution, including the supreme duties of We the People, from America. It was one of their softening-up assaults on the homeland/national security of America -- an assault on our security against wealth-and-power threats from within -- an ancient type of danger the founders of our country knew and feared, and tried to protect the future America from with the multiple Law-of-the-Land defenses (explained herein) they wrote into our Constitution.
Connect the dots to draw the picture: The people in whom we place our trust are taking our wealth and our power, to build up their wealth-and-power so they can take even more wealth and power from us and our posterity. They're also doing it to the rest of the world as much as they can. In the process, they break US law and international law and hurt people here and abroad.
It's all about Values, they repeat over and over in the media. It's all For A Better And Safer America, they assure us. They deceive and manipulate with great effect. We bless their 'good' hearts and support their 'good' works.
They broke though America's security -- from the inside -- and now they freely assault our democratic processes, representative governance, and all five classes of common well-being. In a vast and dangerous betrayal.
Subversion and Harm to Halt and Fix
Most Americans -- even those who read and watch all the news -- through no fault of their own are not aware of the immense subversion and harm inflicted on our country and citizens with great skill and stealth by those in whom we place our trust. Or how it also imperils the world and our future. Or how it is escalating.
Many citizens are alarmed by the wrong and harm they see growing in America today, wrong and harm committed by those at the top who set dangerous examples for the rest of America including our youth to follow. They see only part of the problem; only scattered bits and pieces of the overall problem ever appear in the news. A strengthening political force, rapidly consolidating wealth-and-power, is preventing America from clearly seeing the big-picture problem: the wrong and harm is a political cancer spreading down into America from a dangerous wealth-and-power top that America isn't supposed to have after winning the American Revolution. The bulk of the wrong and harm, the worst of the wrong and harm, and the full identity of those who commit the wrong and harm are hidden from the public by today's press.
Many concerned groups mobilize and try to stop some of the wrong and harm, with a patchwork of partial fixes, in disorganized reaction to chess-like moves by well-organized power playing them, each group working separately on their issue and in competition with other groups for public attention and support. As a whole they are not effective, not even at slowing the growth of wrong and harm committed by those in whom we place our trust, because their efforts -- like all civic efforts toward the public interest today -- are under broad subversive assault. A strengthening political group, rapidly consolidating wealth-and-power assisted by their media machine, is preventing America from uniting and cooperating to plan and launch and carry out the full solution (to the big-picture problem) called for by our Constitution.
America's unchecked consolidated wealth-and-power and their media machine -- summarized in the section above, the homeland enemy, the enemy within -- gradually over the past quarter-century manipulatively blinded America to consolidated wealth-and-power and its danger, a danger the founders of America foresaw and feared and wisely addressed when they wrote our Constitution.
In addition, they manipulatively deadened the spirit of our Declaration of Independence, the spirit of America: wield mass moral outrage, vigorous dissent, and broad and strong unity-and-cooperation against massive wrong to bring right. All three of those well-proven ways of fighting and reversing injustice, injustice committed by those in high places, have been systematically weakened by those in high places using today's powerful weapon of media-machine persuasion. Today, moral outrage is "negative." Dissent is "terrorism." Unity-and-cooperation toward the common good, natural survival behavior of our species, is becoming uncool strange endeavor to be avoided and rejected in favor of division (into several dozen demographic groups and into hundreds of subcategories under that) and competition (among each other for influence and success in our new "free-market" democracy that has replaced our "American" democracy) and thus to be easily conquerable and plunderable by a consolidated force of injustice that singles out and neutralizes each separate and weak fragment of civic power at will, the whole point of the manipulation.
(Why not re-ignite the spirit of America, like the Declaration of Independence set it off in 1776.)
As skillfully and thoroughly, they corrupted and purged America's public understanding of the US Constitution. For example, America no longer knows how "national security" means the security of the self-governance and secular-moral basis of our "more perfect Union," that is, the security our democratic processes and representative governance and the security of our five classes of common well-being (listed one-to-five in the first sentence of our Constitution). Or how "national security" means the security of everyone's freedom to pursue opportunity, fortune, and happiness within that bright open framework of real American democracy. Or how the supreme purpose of freedom of speech, and freedom of the press, is to vigilantly protect and preserve that total national security. Today, "national security" means being safe from terrorism, period. It no longer means being safe from subversion and harm to our democratic processes, representative governance, and five classes of common well-being (which includes being safe from terrorism). Being safe from terrorism is just one of the many items in the big national-security package. Terrorism took 3,000 lives in 2001. But unchecked consolidated wealth-and-power takes more than 50,000 lives in our homeland every year, the annual collateral damage from just a few of their several kinds of assaults on our entire national security.
By blinding America to consolidated wealth-and-power and its danger, by deadening our American spirit, by corrupting-and-purging our understanding of real American democracy -- all of which incapacitated our "Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty" -- they attacked America's security against wealth-and-power threats from within, overrode the several Constitutional defenses the Framers erected to guard us against out-of-control wealth-and-power, and ultimately weakened the ability of We the People to govern and protect and preserve America. All very much on purpose. Similar to how a military softens up defenses of a nation before proceeding with conquest and plunder, they softened up America's defenses with deception, manipulation, and subversion over the past quarter-century to make it really easy for consolidated wealth-and-power to take and hoard more and more wealth-and-power at the social, economic, and bodily expense of We the People and our posterity.
Now they even do it with Homeland Security, created and run by the homeland enemy, by growing a huge taxpayer-funded War-on-Terror industry to extract more of our wealth and by manufacturing/exploiting fear of terrorism to neutralize civic responsibility and civic power that could halt their subversion and harm of America. "We, the People... provide for the common defence" including for homeland security, directs our Constitution. But Homeland Security handicaps the ability of We the People to provide homeland security against dangerous wealth-and-power threats from within.
They subverted our democratic processes and representative governance, they harmed our five classes of common well-being, and today they are accelerating their takeover and taking. They morphed our system of government -- from government of, by, and for We the People -- into government of, by, and for wealth-and-power where our citizens and posterity and national assets lose and the members of wealth-and-power, a small number of people, gain.
To help bring about their subversive heist of our wealth and power, they formed a two-party political monopoly which caters to wealth-and-power and blocks political threats to wealth-and-power. With generous help from the press they deflect, neuter, or crush all candidates, political parties, issues, and truth that would serve the public interest -- America's national interest -- by vitalizing our A] democratic processes (all of them), B] representative governance (to achieve genuine We-the-People representation), and C] the five classes of common well-being (equal justice for all, broad and strong national unity-and-cooperation to live up to the law and humanity in our Constitution, national defense and national security especially against threats from within which would also reduce and prevent threats from without, several kinds of general welfare including education and health, liberty including our privacies and freedoms, for ourselves and our posterity) -- which, in the eyes of the two-party monopoly, are grave threats because they would thwart ambitions of the wealth-and-power clients they represent and service.
(Those A-B-C 'threats' to reds and blues and their clients -- threats from the law and humanity our Constitution! -- could be a hugely-appealing A-B-C platform for a broad-based new political party that could win against reds and blues and return We the People to power and our Constitution back into a living document. Sections below explain a financial benefit [save $2 trillion annually, an average of $15,000 per conservative/liberal taxpayer a year] and a safety benefit [prevent at least 50,000 conservative/liberal deaths a year] by subduing today's ravages of out-of-control right-wing wealth-and-power. Those two benefits -- of resolute good citizenship against the right-wing wealth-and-power threat -- are possible planks for a general-welfare sub-platform which could help grow the new party from scratch, from a broad base of conservatives and liberals being hurt by reds and blues, into super-majority size and landslide victories over reds and blues.)
Their advertising/PR/news/entertainment media machine relentlessly injects wealth-and-power influence into our public mind and corrodes our nation's values: from the wise and humane American values in our Constitution toward the avarice and rapacity that drive consolidated wealth-and-power. By breaking down our humanity they break supreme law: the five-point secular moral system spelled out in our Constitution's first sentence -- our moral bedrock, our national humanity, our true American values -- is "supreme Law of the Land" (US Constitution, Article 6).
Their clandestine assaults on our Constitution's law and humanity, which began by warping and erasing public understanding of our Constitution's law and humanity, have deeply wounded America into acting completely out of character: to hurt our own country and citizens with unfair and inhumane laws and regulations and domestic policies; to hurt other countries and their people with inhumane foreign policies, unfair trade practices, extortive diplomacy, covert interference to destabilize political order and overthrow democracies, military force even against infrastructure and food/water supplies and civilians, all to satisfy desires of American wealth-and-power; to hurt Nature and Earth; to be like the enemy of 1776. Repercussions from abroad additionally harm America.
Unless We the People rediscover the true meaning and purpose of America, and reclaim our supreme power and take back control and stewardship, the ravages of out-of-control American wealth-and-power will intensify here and abroad -- more rapidly with reds in power, less rapidly with blues in power.
(Since wealth-and-power and their two-party monopoly have already made sure that our standard political methods cannot possibly stop them, why not adopt and execute the surefire powerful ways of the past, fully backed by law and spirit in our Charters of Freedom, as explained herein.)
What makes the enemy within so extremely dangerous? Their religious symbiont: an inhumane strain of Christianity that emerged in the late 1800s, born-again Christian Zionism, a religion far different from humane mainstream Christianity including evangelical Christianity (I was an evangelical-Christian alter boy so I know this firsthand). That religion of today's Christian Right, aggressively at odds with law and humanity in our Constitution, was not the Christianity of America's founders. Why is the Christian Right so at odds with our country's law and humanity? Because for America to fully live it would thwart quick attainment of the "end times" the Christian Right yearns for. Besides damaging America's bedrock law and humanity, the small but aggressive Christian Right is infecting our nation's mainstream Christianity.
What else makes the homeland enemy so extremely dangerous? Their media machine. Beginning around 1980, consolidated wealth-and-power combined advertising, public relations, journalism, and entertainment into "communication." Today journalists must serve the wealth-and-power interests of their communication-corporation owners and clients, not the public interest, or else they get pilloried and fired. At the same time they created the "communication" industry and "communication" degree programs at universities, the wealth-and-power fusion stripped the FCC's Fairness Doctrine and public-service requirements from broadcasting, which gave rise to radical-right religious broadcasting and right-wing hate broadcasting. Also, they removed the FCC's restrictions on media consolidation, then merged broadcasting stations and other types of media companies into a few giant media corporations, which conglomerated with other corporations that sell a wide range of products and services, who in symbiosis with the rest of the wealth/power fusion control America's media content to their liking including the news. Today all forms of mass media -- print, radio, television, film, news, entertainment, corporate-owned, public-owned -- operate as a giant right-wing persuasion machine. Aided by their ruse of being liberal media.
In a stunning reversal of allegiance since we defeated the wealth-and-power enemy of 1776 -- the enemy described with fiery language of dissent in our Declaration of Independence for all to see, an enemy remarkably similar to the wealth-and-power enemy within of today -- our press, instead of protecting and serving America like before, today protects and serves the enemy and hides and aids their inhumane, unlawful designs and misdeeds.
(Be vigilant and savvy. Look out for and see through the media's deceptions and manipulations. How they hide today's unlawful-and-inhumane right wing behind the lawful-and-humane "conservatism" of America's founders. How they spin the Christian Right into "evangelical Christianity." How they twist "liberalism," the five moral duties of America listed in the first sentence of our Constitution, liberal humanity that is "supreme Law of the Land," into something wrong and bad. How they pit conservatives against liberals, and vice versa, to help the right wing (hurting conservatives and liberals) to divide-and-conquer America. How they cloak their allegiance to the right wing by referring to themselves as the "Liberal Media.")
They also spin-and-hide how the enemy is small and easily defeatable.
We can halt and fix that subversion and harm.
(Merely do what worked so well in the past. Form a new version of the Continental Congress -- a civic-action congress representing the more than 200 million conservatives and liberals, the huge majority, currently being hurt by the small right-wing minority -- that would unite, built, and direct citizen forces against America's new enemy. To kick off the patriotic halt-and-fix of the enemy's subversion and harm, the new congress would issue a new version of the Declaration of Independence that would describe the enemy, list the enemy's injustices and exactly how they violated our Constitution in technicality and spirit, and declare resolve to neutralize the enemy and return America to the law and humanity in our Constitution. A spin-off? A new political party devoted to fulfilling the new declaration.)
The goal is to again have a public trust -- a White House, Congress, Judiciary, political parties, and media -- that the public can trust to serve our country instead of servicing wealth-and-power.
Who would benefit? We the People, conservatives and liberals alike, including our corporations and religions and media. Our posterity. The world's other nations and citizens. As well as Nature and Earth.
The Disease and Cure
Off and on in cycles throughout the ages, wealth-and-power flared up out of dormancy and consolidated, selfishly took and hoarded wealth-and-power -- and in the process inflicted harm on its own people and often beyond its own borders -- then self-inflicted itself back into dormancy or got forced back into dormancy by revolt or war from its victims. Over the ages, humankind learned how to prevent, control, and neutralize the harmful wealth-and-power disease; the key is to spread and share wealth-and-power, to prevent dangerous consolidation and taking and hoarding of wealth-and-power by small groups, in order to assure survival of the individual, family, community, and thus our species. Our forebears infused this core survival wisdom into human development, morality, and law. Much of it trickled down through the ages into our Declaration of Independence, US Constitution, and Bill of Rights. Today, science is discovering our powerful genetic defenses against the wealth-and-power disease.
The Framers understood and feared the ancient wealth-and-power disease. However in spite of multiple security measures they wrote into our Constitution to inoculate our republic against the disease, around 1980 a virulent new stain began to flare up inside America.
Unchecked consolidated wealth-and-power, including their inhumane religious ally, together with their media machine, have already made certain that our standard methods of democracy -- reading and watching the news to stay informed, supporting just causes, working on vital civic issues, whistleblowing in the public interest, engaging in principled dissent, writing to our Senators and Congressman, voting in every election -- cannot possibly stop their massive and mounting subversion and harm of America.
Worry not. Potent alternatives -- natural and lawful methods of civic power shouting out from our past and Charters of Freedom -- certainly can.
How to Jump-Start the Cure
Blow away the media fog hiding the disease and its harm to America. Expose how the media is feeding and growing the disease, helping the disease to cripple the self-governing ability and common well-being of We the People.
It would awaken and unleash two mechanisms of human survival the disease has put to sleep: Primal urges for justice like the moral outrage and fiery dissent in our Declaration of Independence. Primal action for justice like the broad and resolute unity-and-cooperation declared in our Declaration of Independence.
Betrayal and Resolution
What is the underlying problem -- and worst danger -- facing America today, a peril vastly more harmful than terrorism? Consolidated wealth-and-power and their media machine -- the recent illegal fusion of federal/corporate/religious/media power into a single unchecked political power -- is subverting and hurting America. Our current form of democracy -- a rigged and corrupt "free-market democracy" that bears little resemblance to the principled "American democracy" they stealthily overrode and replaced -- cannot possibly stop them. That homeland enemy -- the enemy within -- is remarkably similar to the enemy of 1776. And to the many other flare-ups of wealth-and-power that have plagued humankind off and on throughout the ages.
Who hides and aids the enemy? The enemy's advertising/PR/news/entertainment "communication" machine: their media machine.
Their high crime against America? The enemy and their media machine are subverting our government of, by, and for We the People into a government of, by, and for wealth and power.
The solution? Wake up and rise up. Revolt against and neutralize the enemy and their media machine, and heal the many wounds they inflicted: restore and grow America's democratic processes, representative governance, and five classes of common well-being.
By what legal authority? The US Constitution: "We, the People... provide for the common defence" of America including against threats from within. It is "supreme Law of the Land" to do so.
Two guides to dust off, study, and apply? 1] The Declaration of Independence: its entire powerful substance, not the weak and faulty understanding the enemy has forced America to teach and believe today. 2] The overriding strategy of the Continental Congress which united, built, and directed citizen forces against the enemy of 1776: United We Stand (conservatives and liberals against their common right-wing enemy), Divided We Fall.
Would the revolt overthrow the authority of the state? No. American Revolution II would return the authority of the state -- from unchecked consolidated wealth-and-power and their media machine (the homeland enemy, the enemy within) -- back to We the People.
Would it be bloody like American Revolution I? No. This revolt would be a supremely-lawful, long-overdue, full maintenance and tune-up of the real American democracy -- the principled secular humanistic republic -- embodied in our Constitution.
When did the enemy begin to flare up and grow inside America? Individual powers once kept separate and thus harmless -- wealth/corporate power, executive/legislative/judicial federal powers, intelligence/military power, red/blue political-party power, mass-media power, Christian-Right religious power -- began to consolidate into an unbridled right-wing political power around 1980.
The peril? More and more every day, and without concern for law they break or harm they inflict, the members of the homeland enemy ignore the wishes of We the People, ignore our Constitution, and freely do as they please with our country and citizens including with our US Treasury that we and our posterity fill for them.
How do they threaten America's national security? That is, how do they threaten the security of our principled self-governance and bountiful common well-being? The members of the homeland enemy -- assisted by their media machine -- are attacking and wounding America's democratic processes, representative governance, and all five classes of common well-being.
What five classes of common well-being? Justice (for all and equal for all), domestic tranquility (needed for national unity and cooperation, needed to have a "United" States of America), the common defense (including homeland/national security against wealth-and-power threats from within), the general welfare (of myriad kinds that serve the public interest), and liberty (privacies and freedoms) -- for ourselves and our posterity. These five classes of common well-being are the humanistic bedrock of our "more perfect Union," where happiness and fortune can be freely pursued by individuals and corporations but never at the expense of others or the public good, as clearly spelled out in the first sentence of our Constitution since 1787.
Who has supreme responsibility to build and maintain these five classes of common well-being? We the People do, through democratic processes and representative governance.
How? The key is for all citizens especially our leaders and media -- in unity and cooperation as the "United" States of America -- to vigilantly maintain the integrity and vitality of our democratic processes and representative governance.
What happened to our vigilance including free speech and dissent, America's early warning system against threats from within? The enemy and their media machine neutered our vigilance, including our free speech and dissent, and today freely corrupt and weaken our democratic processes and representative governance, freely take governance away from We the People, freely take wealth from ourselves and our posterity, and freely hurt the rest of our present and future common good as well.
Who generates the fog that hides the enemy, hides their moral and legal wrongdoing, and hides the responsibility and power of We the People to stop the enemy and heal the harm they cause? The enemy's advertising/PR/news/entertainment "communication" machine, their media machine.
What is the purpose of their deception, including their wearing of wholesome masks and broadcasting of spin? Deception is a weapon used against an enemy, against prey. Their enemy? Their prey? The principled secular humanistic republic in our Constitution. We the People and our posterity.
What is America's "social contract?" In return for efforts made and taxes paid by We the People during our principled self-governance of America through vigilantly-maintained democratic processes and representative governance, we receive the full benefits of our caring for and living in America: five kinds of public good (the secular humanistic foundation of our "more perfect Union") AND loads of freedom to pursue happiness and fortune as socially-responsible individuals and corporations.
How did consolidated wealth-and-power, with assistance from their media machine, break the "social contract?" They broke down our vigilance AND our democratic processes and representative governance -- that is, they broke down the ability of We the People to self-govern America -- to such an extent they now freely serve themselves at the social/economic/physical expense of the public including by diverting our taxes and our posterity's taxes to themselves. In short, in a cunning stealthy War on America of the worst possible kind, they are subverting America's system of self-governance and they are slashing the benefits of living in America.
How did the Framers of our Constitution -- who understood history, who feared the ancient wealth-and-power disease that has plagued humankind off and on for ages -- try to prevent the disease from ever flaring up in our homeland and then taking wealth and power and well-being from citizens? The Framers designed a redundant protection system and embedded it in supreme law: Full, unfettered, open democratic processes -- and transparent, responsive, truly representative governance -- to keep the wealth-and-power disease in check and thus America a republic. "[I]nsure domestic Tranquility" so that citizens don't pit themselves against each other, to keep We the People able to unite and cooperate to fight the disease; "provide for the common defence" against the disease; "no religious Test[s]" to prevent religion in public servants and in other members of the public trust from feeding the disease; Trial by jury as a direct citizen check against unjust prosecution and unjust courts and unjust laws spawned by the disease (juries have a supreme duty to nullify bad laws not "made in Pursuance [of]" our Constitution); separation of powers, and separation of church and state, to prevent separate components of wealth and power from consolidating and growing into the disease; freedom of speech, and freedom of the press, to sound alarms about the disease and to call for citizen action to fight and cure the disease. The homeland enemy and their media machine, a virulent new strain of the ancient wealth-and-power disease that arose around 1980, overrode all of those homeland-security measures.
How else has the enemy weakened our security against wealth-and-power threats from within? They erased fundamental understanding of "America" from America. Today, most citizens don't know that We the People are "the government" or that the White House and Congress and Judiciary are help we hire, key employees responsible to us. Neither do we know that We the People have supreme power, not Washington. The very Essence of America spelled out in the first sentence of our Constitution -- the goals and values of our republic including America's five-point secular moral code, the supreme purpose of democratic effort including the paramount duty of free speech, the supreme responsibilities of every citizen and leader, the patriotic common ground of all conservatives and liberals, the official agenda of our country, the true national interest -- has vanished from our public education, public mind, and governance nationwide. We no longer know about the "social contract" either. By purging understanding of "America" from America, the enemy and their media machine have gravely weakened the immune system that protected our nation against the wealth-and-power disease.
Why did the wealth-and-power disease begin to flare up so fast around 1980? That's when wealth/corporate power, executive/legislative/judicial federal powers, intelligence/military power, red/blue political-party power, and mass-media power formed a symbiotic alliance with the Christian Right -- an aggressive and inhumane new brand of Christianity at odds with core law and values in our Constitution, a new strain of Christianity that stains mainstream Christianity, which emerged a century after the birth of America and then set in motion and fueled the historical chain of events that led to 9/11 (as summarized in the last section).
What are the traditional moral values of conservatives and liberals? "We, the People... establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity" (Preamble, US Constitution).
How does the US Constitution compare to the Ten Commandments? The Preamble's five-point secular moral code (see paragraph above) -- "supreme Law of the Land" according to Article 6 -- calls upon citizens and leaders to provide far more human-to-human goodness to others than the Ten Commandments do.
What are the traditional moral values of the right wing, the real values they skillfully hide behind their conservative mask? "Do whatever it takes to gain and hoard wealth and power, even at the immense expense of others and the public good." Those right-wing values are pre-conservative and pre-liberal because they pre-date our Constitution: they are the values of the enemy of 1776, the values of the ancient wealth-and-power disease.
Who is steadily pressuring America's values to change, from the values in our Constitution toward the values of the wealth-and-power disease? The right wing: the homeland enemy, the enemy within, consolidated wealth-and-power and their media machine.
What basic human values are they corroding away? Respect for others (and for the land, water, air and its creatures) is a core human value. So is personal and social responsibility. So is cooperation toward the common good. Respect, responsibility, and cooperation happen to be ancient core values of human survival. In the 1970s they were listed on our daughters' elementary-school report cards -- along with critical thinking ability -- as the top goals of human development, as the foundation of adult maturity. The human values of respect, responsibility, and cooperation date back to the dawn of our species and became embodied in our Constitution. Today, through relentless and often intense trickle-down pressure and influence from the top, America's consolidated wealth-and-power and their advertising/PR/news/entertainment media machine are purging these core human values from America -- critical thinking also -- which threatens the survival of our self-governance and well-being.
How inhumane and unjust have they already made America? One example of very many: America now has a higher percentage of its population behind bars than all other nations in the world; if Texas were a nation it would top the list. Largely minorities and the poor are incarcerated, mostly for non-violent lesser offenses. Many are housed in for-profit prisons, a taxpayer-funded growth industry that enriches wealth and power. The setup works like this. Deep cuts by the White House and Congress to "the general Welfare" cause social-and-economic breakdown and despair, forcing victims to commit desperate acts to cope and survive, funnelling them right into the awaiting trap of tough-on-crime sentencing laws for minor and minority crimes. Our nation's major offenders -- members of wealth and power who assault our democratic processes and representative governance and five classes of common well-being, who loot about $2 trillion from our citizens and posterity each year, who kill at least 50,000 members of the US public each year as collateral damage in their War on America -- get off scot-free. (A list of similar injustices by a similar enemy makes up more than half of our Declaration of Independence.)
Who already morphed our principled American democracy into a rigged free-market democracy that transfers more and more wealth, power, and well-being from We the People to the homeland enemy? The right wing: the homeland enemy, the enemy within, consolidated wealth-and-power and their media machine.
Can that subversion and harm be stopped by voting the other party into power? Probably not. Republicans and Democrats are red and blue flavors of the wealth-and-power political monopoly that controls the White House and Congress ; the blue flavor is less unlawful and less inhumane than the red flavor, the primary distinction between Republicans and Democrats, which earns the red flavor better press. The monopoly's wealth/corporate and Christian-Right clients, including big-media owners, through the lobbying process place orders with White House and Congressional Republicans and Democrats for the political products they want manufactured and delivered -- laws and regulations, domestic and foreign policies including wars, judge appointments and court rulings -- and they pay for those products with volumes of campaign cash and a bloc of Christian-Right votes. Republicans, Democrats, the White House, Congress, Judiciary, the wealthy, Corporate America, the Christian Right, and mass media all symbiotically cooperate in this rigged and corrupt "free-market democracy," our country's new form of democracy they morphed our principled "American democracy" into. That strengthening Republican/Democratic political monopoly feeds and grows the wealth-and-power disease the Framers feared.
How rigged and corrupt is our "free-market democracy?" One of many examples: The Commission on Presidential Debates is a private corporation created by the Republican and Democratic parties and is funded by corporations who give campaign money to both parties. Only Republican and Democratic candidates are allowed to participate in the debates. Candidates from all other parties -- and thus all discourse about restoring democratic processes, representative governance, and the five classes of common well-being -- are forcefully kept out of the debates. Their media machine dupes the general public into believing that the Commission on Presidential Debates is a taxpayer-funded federal commission run honestly.
How are conservatives and liberals fundamentally the same -- and starkly different from right wingers (members of the homeland enemy)? True conservatives and true liberals revere our Constitution -- right wingers contemptuously violate it. The patriotism of conservatives and liberals is rooted in the humanity of our Constitution -- the patriotism of the right wing (the real patriotism they hurt us with, not the fake patriotism they deceive us with) is rooted in the inhumanity that Colonial America revolted against to create our nation.
Who divides America so very skillfully that conservatives and liberals can't unite or cooperate against the small right wing that's hurting them both? The right wing: the homeland enemy, the enemy within, consolidated wealth-and-power and their media machine.
To what extent have they divided America into tiny fragments of self-interest? How dangerously have they bred out unity and cooperation toward the common good? Besides engineering and growing the rancorous conservative/liberal division, they sliced and diced the electorate into several dozen demographic groups, and into hundreds of subcategories under that, and they fuel discord among divisions. As a result, most Americans today see competition for individual and narrow-interest well-being, not cooperation toward the common good, as the game and goal of democracy. Soon, the United States of America may no longer be in the state of being united enough to cooperate or care for itself.
Why do they insure "domestic Discord" instead of "domestic Tranquility" as required by "supreme Law of the Land" in the first sentence of our Constitution? To prevent unity and cooperation. To make it easy to divide and conquer America.
How much have they warped civic responsibility? Originally, We the People (the government) undertook supreme responsibility to "establish Justice [1], insure domestic Tranquility [2], provide for the common defence [3], promote the general Welfare [4], and secure the Blessings of Liberty [5] to ourselves and our Posterity" through democratic processes and representative governance. Today, [1] through [5] are seen as entitled rights to be delivered to We the People (the subjects) on a silver platter by "the government" (our rulers) in Washington.
How far have they twisted the duty of free speech? Originally, First-Amendment free speech meant "freedom" to speak -- as in not being arrested or jailed or physically hurt for it -- to warn about and call for action against threats and harm to our country and citizens. Today, free speech is an individual right of self-expression, for the purpose of self-gratification, that is utterly devoid of its original supreme purpose of protecting and preserving our principled self-governance and bountiful common well-being.
How much have they cheapened and weakened our most beloved Charter of Freedom? And why? Our Declaration of Independence is perhaps the greatest document of dissent ever written. The core of the charter is 1] a list of injustices by the enemy against the common good, the moral reasons for revolt, and 2] a declaration of resolve to get out from under the enemy and build and grow principled self-governance and bountiful common good. Today's enemy stealthily cleansed that fierce patriotism from our public education and public mind. All we know now are a few sound-bites like "unalienable Rights" and "pursuit of Happiness." To teach and promote our Declaration of Independence at full strength would give hope, resolve, and immense civic power to We the People to fight the homeland enemy and their media machine as effectively as Colonial America fought the enemy of 1776 -- basic Civics-101 education the enemy cannot allow.
Toward what end does the homeland enemy deceive, manipulate, subvert, and divide-and-conquer America? The ancient usual purpose: to take and hoard wealth and power.
Did history forewarn today's America and teach the solution? Yes, for thousands of years, until consolidated wealth-and-power recently erased those history lessons from America. Throughout tens of millennia of human history, conventional wisdom (of many past generations of We the People worldwide) was to watch wealth-and-power like a hawk (eternal vigilance is the price of liberty and all other forms of common well-being), prevent wealth-and-power from flaring up (such as with the multiple security measures in our Constitution), keep wealth-and-power on a short leash (such as with citizen regulation of corporations), or else suffer the grave consequences. For example, ancient Greece understood and feared the consequences of allowing wealth-and-power to build up and run wild; besides giving us the word "democracy," ancient Greece also created words for what happens when vigilance and cooperation toward humanistic democracy become damaged and then fail: "plutocracy," "theocracy," "kakistocracy." The Framers applied those history lessons as they wrote our Constitution, and so did the citizens and leaders of early America as they lived our Constitution.
American Revolution II would benefit whom? We the People, conservatives and liberals alike, including our corporations and religions and media. Our posterity. The world's other nations and citizens. As well as Nature and Earth.
How to win? That is, how to resolve the immense betrayal by our leaders and press in whom we place our trust? Merely do what normal humans and good citizens would do. To overcome and refortify the enemy's weakening of America's many democratic processes, and to surmount and clean up their corruption of America's representative governance, pick up and sharpen and wield the potent innate-human and supreme-law weapons from our past and Charters of Freedom. Study, circulate, refine, and apply the four-element strategy herein. (Modern versions of Paul Revere's Ride, the Continental Congress, and Declaration of Independence are all part of Element 1.)
How small -- and defeatable -- is the right-wing homeland enemy? Their wealth/corporate core (described herein) is a half-million strong, 0.2% of the public. Their Christian-Right core (described herein) is 30-million strong, 10% of the public. Neutralize the tiny wealth/corporate core (by ending their control and corruption of Washington and the media) and the power of Christian Right simultaneously disintegrates. 90% of the public -- all the conservatives and liberals, including today's Minutemen, being tricked and hurt by the right wing -- could be easily marshaled into a unified civic power more than 200-million strong.
What is the supreme purpose of our Second-Amendment right to keep and bear arms? Same as the rest of the redundant homeland/national-security system the Framers wove into our Constitution: to protect ourselves and our country against enemies of the type described in our Declaration of Independence. The homeland enemy and their media machine amply qualify. Today's Minutemen would use symbolic flintlocks of course.
Besides the deception, manipulation, subversion, and divide-and-conquer schemes touched upon above, how else is the enemy trying to destroy the civic power of We the People? And why will they ultimately fail? Throughout the ages humans have responded to corruption with moral disgust and to injustice with moral outrage (as exemplified in our Declaration of Independence), and then with unity and cooperation to end the corruption and injustice (as during the revolt that gave birth to our principled secular humanistic republic). So of course wealth-and-power and their media machine are busily disabling the moral disgust and moral outrage they fear might stop them -- skillfully and effectively so: in public discourse nationwide, there's little evidence that we even care that the enemy is robbing us blind $2-trillion annually and causing collateral death in our homeland at the rate of more than sixteen 9/11s a year. But that can easily change and blow up in their face. Modern science (that the far right is trying hard to weaken) is revealing how moral disgust and moral outrage, as well as cooperation toward common well-being, seem to be survival emotion and survival behavior embedded in our DNA. These primal urges for justice, today being tricked into slumber by the homeland enemy and their national manipulation team, can be awakened and unleashed -- on a massive scale. The key is make 300 million citizens keenly aware of the enormity of the enemy's lawbreaking and inhumanity and their utter lack of remorse about it -- say in a new outpouring of moral disgust and moral outrage in a new version of the Declaration of Independence modeled after the successful original -- which would ignite and fuel the necessary corrective revolt. Thus the enemy will ultimately fail in their attempts to block the survival power, the civic power, in our genes. Moral disgust and moral outrage -- they wake up and rise up from our deep urges to be treated fairly, especially by the people we are taught and told to trust -- are as innate, powerful, and vital for the survival of our species as our drives for water, food, and sex. They cannot be stopped.
Why begin the corrective revolt soon? Because the runaway right-wing enemy within is beginning to grow into a fascistic power.
The goal? To again have a public trust -- a White House, Congress, Judiciary, political parties, and press -- that the public can trust. So that We the People can restore and grow the principled self-governance and bountiful common well-being embodied in our Constitution.
The Coming Corrective Revolt
This public document, a summary of CivicPowerUSA.org where facts and figures above and below are explained, is a big-picture full-solution democracy weapon and tool for conservatives and liberals alike.
This work is meant to be a springboard -- and a guide -- for We the People to organize and achieve the American Revolution II outlined herein.
It contains a synopsis of core civic knowledge -- of civic empowerment -- that citizens must rediscover and fathom and cherish to accomplish real change. Basic knowledge like this: What does the first sentence of our Constitution actually mean? How is "American democracy" very different from -- and vastly superior to -- "generic majority-is-right democracy?" Who is "the government?" Who has "supreme power?" During the past quarter century, in order to weaken our national defense against wealth-and-power threats from within, the right has seen to it that the public is no longer empowered with this core civic knowledge.
Contrary to how the media depicts conservatives and liberals and sways them to act -- conservatives and liberals are divisive opposites who compete against and fight each other -- in reality true conservatives and right wingers (the homeland enemy) are as different as night and day, conservatives and liberals have very much in common, and the right wingers hurting both are tiny in number. Imagine how 200 million conservatives and liberals would react when taught the full extent of how they, their families, and their future generations are being systematically hurt by the right -- socially, economically, physically -- including by several forms of clever stealthy looting. Thus the tiny right wing is vulnerable to overwhelming defeat by a vast conservative/liberal majority through powerful innate-human and supreme-law means.
Why does the media insure domestic discord, rather than "insure domestic Tranquility" as required by our Constitution? Why does the media protect and serve the right wing, rather than protect and serve We the People as required by our Constitution? They do it to prevent conservatives and liberals from uniting and cooperating to protect America against the right. They do it to help the right divide and conquer America and take spoils of wealth and power.
To achieve the coming victory, two tried-and-true methods are proposed and outlined in this document: We the People act on our deep primal urges for justice, We the People carry out our supreme Law of the Land. These two well-proven strategies are shouting out from our ancient human past, early American history, Declaration of Independence, and Constitution.
The goal? Unite and cooperate to neutralize the right wing and their media machine. Then restore and grow our democratic processes, our representative governance, and our five classes of common well-being listed in the first sentence of our Constitution (that are no longer taught in our public schools, or conscious in our public mind, due to the right's power and influence).
By what legal authority can we undertake American Revolution II? For starters, "We, the People... provide for the common defence" of America against the homeland enemy -- this paramount civic responsibility of We the People (in the Preamble) is "supreme Law of the Land" (according to Article 6). Besides the First Amendment, there are many other powerful legal means in our Constitution -- patriotic supreme-law weapons the right doesn't want We the People to know about or wield against them.
Circulate and apply this basic weapon and tool nationwide -- especially to and by journalists, educators, mainstream clergy, responsible business and political leaders, public-interest and civic-action groups -- to accomplish this: Expose the right's giant divide-and-conquer ruse for taking wealth and power from We the People and our posterity, and from other nations also. Lay bare the right's purge of civic understanding from America, and how it has severely weakened America's first line of defense against consolidated-wealth-and-power threats from within. Reveal the rest of the immensity and danger of the right's moral and legal wrongdoing. List precisely HOW the right's myriad acts of subversion and harm have violated our Constitution in technicality and spirit including all "American values" in the Preamble. Present the big-picture full solution to the entire American public. Do all this to incite, empower, and enlist the 90% conservative/liberal majority (more than 200 million citizens) -- who today are being looted and hurt by the 10% right-wing minority (an alliance of 0.5 million wealth/corporate people and 30 million people in the Christian Right) -- to unite and cooperate against the right for the good of themselves and their country. Then declare and launch the corrective civic revolt that our Constitution cries out for. That's Element 1 of the four-element plan, the big-picture full solution, at the end of this document.
1980-2005: from Republic to Kakistocracy
"Republic:" government in which supreme power lies in citizens who vote for representatives responsible to them.
"Kakistocracy:" government by the least qualified or most unprincipled citizens.
An illegal homeland enemy -- the consolidation of wealth/corporate power, executive/legislative/judicial federal powers, intelligence/military power, red/blue political-party power, mass-media power, and Christian-Right religious power into the unbridled power which began to flare up around 1980 and controls and loots and hurts America today -- is stealthily and rapidly corrupting our principled secular humanistic republic into a theocratic plutocratic kakistocracy.
Historians explain how the consolidation began early in America -- how America's wealth and power was already somewhat concentrated at our nation's birth -- then grew slowly and steadily. Recent history describes how the consolidation began to accelerate around 1980, especially after wealth/corporate power and executive/legislative/judicial federal power and intelligence/military power and red/blue political-monopoly power drew the Christian Right and the full force of the communication industry (advertising, public relations, journalism, entertainment) into their wealth-and-power fusion. Current events are sounding alarms, more loudly every day, about this peril to our nation.
Our "republic" is supposed to work like this: the White House, Congress, Judiciary, political parties, and free press serve We the People and our posterity in a "more perfect Union" where even corporations and religion do good and do well in accordance with our Constitution.
Today's "kakistocracy" works like this: the White House, Congress, Judiciary, Republicans, Democrats, and their media machine serve wealth/corporate and Christian-Right clients (a small minority) at the immense tragic expense of We the People and our posterity (the huge majority) in violation of our Constitution.
The right-wing enemy within is dividing and conquering America -- without concern for law they break, without concern for harm they inflict -- to take and hoard the usual spoils of wealth and power.
The White House, Congress, and our press have switched sides: from serving We the People, to serving the homeland enemy. The Judiciary, installed by the White House and Congress, is shifting to that new allegiance also. So is our military.
How did the enemy pull it off? First, they destroyed our first line of defense: our vigilance. "Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty," early patriots warned. Eternal vigilance is also the price of democratic processes, representative governance, justice, unity and cooperation, homeland/national security, and the general welfare. They suppress and punish vigilance. They cleverly manipulate the public to HELP them crush vigilance.
The enemy forged advertising, public relations, journalism, and entertainment into a stealthy weapon of homeland conquest: into a mass-media "communication" machine that spins and hides the enemy's wrongdoing, and persuades We the People to go along with and actively support the enemy's efforts. How skillfully do they manipulate us into losing our supreme power, into losing our common well-being?
